Delivering the keynote address at the science day award ceremony at the SASTRA Deemed University on Friday, he said India is the third largest start-up destination in the world.
Mentioning new initiatives of government of India, such as technical textiles, quantum computing, genomics, deep ocean technology and biodiversity, he mentioned that deep ocean technology is gaining momentum because of wide coastline of India.
Mitra appreciated the university’s initiatives to reach out to the best scientific minds. He presented the SASTRA – G N Ramachandran award to T P Singh, AIIMS, New Delhi. SASTRA – Obaid Siddiqi award was received by Upinder Singh Bhalla, National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bengaluru, for 2020. Alejandro Sánchez Alvarado, Stowers Institute for Medical Research, USA received it for year 2019.
He presented SASTRA – C N R Rao award for 2020 to J N Moorthy, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Thiruvananthapuram and S Sampath, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. TNN
