Google parent company Alphabet’s second, secretive software development team, Sandbox at Alphabet, intends to launch a collection of APIs called Flow that will enable developers to use tensor processing units (TPUs) to simulate quantum computing workloads.
Experts say that quantum computing at a higher level requires quantum-mechanical phenomena such as superposition and complexity to perform computation. This could someday expedite AI workloads compared with traditional computers. Scientific discoveries emerging from the field could transform energy storage, drug discovery, machine learning, chemical engineering, financial portfolio optimization, and others driving new business applications.
