EU Commission Welcomes Council’s Support for €7B Investment in Supercomputing Infrastructure (via Qpute.com)

The proposal supported by the Council today would enable an investment of €7 billion in the next generation of supercomputers, quantum computers, and their interconnection via terabit networks, as well as in research and development, ambitious applications, and in education, skills, and training by way of a proposed new Regulation for the European High Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU).

The new budget will be supported by Horizon Europe, Digital Europe and the Connecting Europe Facility. The supercomputing infrastructure could support more than 800 European scientific, industrial and public sector applications. After the European Parliament resolution planned for June, the final adoption by the Council is expected before the summer. This will ensure a continuation of the existing Joint Undertaking activities. A press release, a Q&A, and a factsheet of the original proposal are available.
